I did attend to Earls Marischal, at the March 2014 post 'Lat Thame Say' and 'While She Was Laughing Them To Scorn' of January 2014. A narrative of James Keith (1696-c1752) weaves through 'Young Fellows upon Wrong Pursuits,' of November 2013.rdhardestyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07086771345621272408noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1779775550270586883.post-82043037664158630882014-11-14T11:57:09.215-08:002014-11-14T11:57:09.215-08:00Excellent article. I have seen much of this information before, but never organized so well and so thoroughly.

Based on other information I have read (though I cannot at this time recall a source) there is also speculation that their eldest son James Keith (c.1734) was actually the son of Mary and the overseer Arden. While Arden had been killed by the "brothers", the baby (or yet to be born child) had been spared. Rev. James then raised the boy as his own.

I am intriqued by the last line "There will be a final, disturbing chapter to Mary and James Keith’s saga." Will you be writing a follow-on post that ellaborates on this? Meston was never to teach in this capacity. A royal commission expelled him and most of the Earl's appointees during "the disorders of the times." Meston acted as Governor of Dunnottar Castle, and - after Sheriffmuir - he also fled to the Scottish highlands ... during the Jacobite uprisings of 1715.
See Scottish Notes and Queries, by Bulloch and Henderson:
http://books.google.com/books?id=n1kpqBCAQVcCrdhardestyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07086771345621272408noreply@blogger.com
